Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Jermaine Jenas believes Jose Mourinho will step up his efforts to sign Danny Rose for Manchester United during this summer’s transfer window.
The Red Devils have constantly been linked with the England international since the 2017 summer transfer window where he declared to desire to join a bigger side capable of winning trophies.
Much has changed ever since, with Rose dropping down the pecking order at Spurs whilst Luke Shaw has been tipped to leave Old Trafford having faced a similar situation under manager Jose Mourinho.
In a report covered on GQ, Jenas was discussing United’s summer plans where he highlighted the need for a new left-sided defender, who can make regular overlapping runs.
Ashley Young has been the preferred choice in the position this term but his trailing age has increased the need for a new recruit with Shaw, Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian failing to impress the manager.
As such, Jenas believes Rose could be the ideal transfer option for Mourinho and the Englishman could cost in upwards of £50m, should he overcome his calf concern and have a strong summer World Cup.
He said: “I want an overlapping left back, like an Ashley Cole or what Danny Rose brought to Spurs last season. I think it’s nailed on that Mourinho will get Rose this summer and the smart deal would be for Luke Shaw to go in the opposite direction,” he said. “If Danny Rose has a good World Cup, I would expect Daniel Levy to value him in a similar way to Kyle Walker.”
