Jose Mourinho praised the Arsenal hierarchy for offering a new two-year deal to his old rival Arsene Wenger.
Their well-known rivalry goes for years now, but Mourinho shared some positive comments about Wenger’s new contract and Arsenal’s decision to keep the Frenchman at Emirates. “The way Wenger was treated, I think two more years of contract is fantastic treatment,” Mourinho said.
“That is what every manager wants, to be strong enough to make their own decisions to forget the media opinions, the pundits’ opinions and the supporters’ opinions. I think Mr Wenger got exactly what every manager wants. A strong club, two more years of contract and conditions to try to win titles. Fantastic treatment from the Arsenal board. That is what he deserves and that is what every manager wants,” the Portuguese concluded.
This statement comes as a bit of surprise knowing the history between the two, but the “Special One” shows respect to his colleague. Still, we can expect touchline spats and pre and post-match digs when they face in the upcoming season because the passion these managers share for the beautiful game is the main reason for long-standing tension.
