Nemanja Matic delighted with this youngster’s progress at Old Trafford this term

Nemanja Matic has hailed the performance of midfielder Scott McTominay during last weekend’s 2-1 win over Chelsea in the Premier League. The 21-year-old only made his debut for United in May 2017, but he has since managed to established himself as a first-team regular.

In a report covered by M.E.N, Matic was quick to heap praise on the Anglo-Scot, who went about his business of stopping Eden Hazard on his stride for most of the game, he said: “He is amazing. He is 21 and to play like that and control the game like that is impressive. He will be a big player for Manchester United.”

“I like him because he is a very nice guy and he doesn’t have a problem to ask before the game something and I am always there to help him. When I came to Manchester I saw within a few days he would become a top player.”

McTominay did not put in a physical performance as Ander Herrera did against Eden Hazard last term, but he managed to keep close to the Belgian throughout the game which restricted the 27-year-old from playing his free-flowing football.

His only mistake, however, came from a Chelsea counter-attack which eventually allowed Willian to score, but at his present age, there is plenty to scope to learn from his seniors, especially Michael Carrick, who may provide valuable piece of advice in a coaching capacity from next season.

Despite playing with quality players around him, McTominay has not looked unfazed, and the future for the midfielder is bright, provided he maintain the form of consistency he has shown over the past two outings against Sevilla and Chelsea.
