Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic believes Jose Mourinho is special from other managers owing to his winning mentality. The Portuguese tactician guided the club to a League Cup and Europa League double during his first season in charge, and though his second year has not gone as planned, United have made significant progress in the Premier League.
Mourinho has received plenty of criticism for his tactics of late, and the Champions League defeat to Sevilla, in particular, has not gone well with the supporters. Despite this, Matic, who has been one of the club’s standout performers this term, hailed the 55-year-old saying: “[Mourinho] is special because he wants to win always. You can see when we lose a game he cannot accept that. Probably that’s why he won more than 20 trophies in his life.”
Matic did not think twice about a reunion with Mourinho last summer, and the Serbian is clear that the Portuguese can drive the club to further success owing to his demanding nature, which keeps the players at their feet.
Manchester United are presently in a strong position to finish second in the Premier League standings, and Matic believes the club can define their season as a ‘good’ one, should they end their campaign with an FA Cup triumph.
