Manchester United will be without five first-team players when they face off against Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday night. The Red Devils are currently at the top of their group with six points after two outings, and a victory at the Estadio da Luz would put them on the brink of reaching the knockout phase of the competition.
Prior to the midweek game, The Manchester Evening News has provided an update on the travelling squad, and there is not good news on the injury front with both Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini still sidelined. Out of both, Fellaini is the most likely to return from a knee sprain, but it appears that the Belgian is still far off from making a first-team comeback.
Meanwhile, there are no places for the likes of Antonio Valencia and Phil Jones – both of whom are yet to make their Champions League bow this term. Ashley Young has been preferred ahead of Valencia for the right-back spot in Europe, while Victor Lindelof has also been in the mix in central defence with two starts. Club-captain Michael Carrick remains the other absentee on the list, and Mourinho is likely to provide an injury update during his press- conference on Tuesday.
** Long-term absentees Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo not included
