According to MEN, Manchester United could soon complete their second piece of transfer business this month, coming close to agreeing a deal with Aston Villa, after James Wilson joined Sheffield United on loan days previously.
Defender Axel Tuanzebe is reportedly on his way to Villa Park, although United manager Jose Mourinho could delay letting him leave until the end of the window, as the club are suffering from a host of injuries at the back.
“Tuanzebe’s a very good player that is not having lots of possibilities to play here,” Mourinho said. “But he’s our player and will be our player, no chance we give up on such a talented boy.
“But it is something we are thinking about, a loan until the end of the season. We are a bit afraid of injuries, a bit afraid of needing him, we have Eric Bailly injured, we are not free of other injuries, so we are delaying the decision and we are going to delay until the end of the transfer window.”
Mourinho added that if Eric Bailly’s likely to return before the end of January, he would consider letting the 20-year-old leave the club. Tuanzebe has made three appearances for first-team, featuring in the Premier League, Champions League and League Cup.
Promoted through the United youth teams in recent years, the England u21 international could relish the chance for regular first-team football, even it is in the Championship with Aston Villa. Such experience is important for the youngster, but United might have a use for him while defensive options are threadbare.
Villa may not be keen having to wait a number of weeks to procure his signature, however, and could look at other options in the winter transfer market.
