Manchester United have reportedly left Marouane Fellaini out of their travelling squad against CSKA Moscow after he suffered a knock on his left ankle at Southampton. The Belgium international suffered the problem in the 1-0 win over Southampton following a heavy challenge from Shane Long in the first-half.
According to The Telegraph, United have been compelled to leave Fellaini for the Moscow trip as he has yet to fully recover from the tackle. As a result, Ander Herrera is expected to start alongside Nemanja Matic at the centre of the park – with Michael Carrick not included in the 19-man squad said to have boarded the flight to Moscow.
Fellaini has been in good form since the start of the season, providing two goals and assisting one across all competitions. The Belgian had got the nod over Ander Herrera of late, and this has earned him starts in the league wins over Everton and Southampton – with Paul Pogba still out with a hamstring injury.
Manchester United are understood to have travelled with just two senior midfielders in Herrera and Matic for their Champions League outing, but Jose Mourinho will still expect a strong performance from his side at the VEB Arena on Wednesday night.
