OFFICIAL BID: Club Receive Offer For United Target

Louis Van Gaal and Edward Woodward’s recent interviews have whetted the appetite for more signings as both the manager and vice chairman have indicate more players could be signed this Summer. One area the Reds do need at least one addition to is in defence and the logical thinking is the new addition should be someone with Premier League experience.

One name who has been linked with United is Everton’s John Stones who was extremely impressive against the Reds last season. If Van Gaal is to bag the 21 year-old he may need to act quickly as Chelsea have already fired the opening salvo.

The Mirror notes:

Everton’s pre-season has been rocked by a £20million Chelsea bid for defender John Stones.

And Goodison Park sources are insisting not even DOUBLE that would tempt them to sell a player they regard as a future captain – and a bigger asset than Ross Barkley.

Chelsea’s cheeky bid for the talented England starlet was instantly rejected by Everton who are now bracing themselves for interest from Manchester City AND United.

Senior Everton officials – in Singapore ahead of Saturday’s Barclay’s Asia Trophy Final against Arsenal – refused to deny they have had a bid from Chelsea for the youngster.

Everton may be making noises that they’ll only accept a huge offer for the England international but that’s hardly likely to be true as the past has shown bids in excess of the £20-25 million mark are extremely difficult for the club to turn down. The Toffees cause when it comes to balancing the books cannot have been helped by the huge fee they paid for Romelu Lukaku ahead of what turned out to be a disappointing season. £30 million may be enough to bag Stones, the question is can the Reds convince him Old Trafford is the best place to showcase his talents?
