Official Injury Update: Three Manchester United players out for Newcastle trip

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has delivered a fitness update on his first-team squad ahead of Sunday’s Premier League trip to Newcastle United. The Portuguese tactician confirmed that there are no fresh injuries to report, though the sidelined players are unlikely to make their comebacks versus the Magpies.

Speaking to MUTV, the 55-year-old confirmed that both Eric Bailly and Daley Blind are sidelined for the encounter as they continue to recuperate from their respective ankle problems. However, there was some positive news on Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has rejoined first-team training, though he is unlikely to be fit enough to make Newcastle trip.

He said: “The squad is good, everything is fine,” the boss said. Eric Bailly and Daley Blind are the two players that are out. Zlatan started training with the team two days ago, so two days with the group and improving. We are fine.”

Jose Mourinho’s side secured a comfortable 4-1 triumph over the Magpies at Old Trafford earlier this season, and they will expect a similar performance at St James Park, where they have secured victories in three of their previous four meetings with three clean sheets.

Barring the 2-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur, United’s defensive record has been perfect across all competitions in 2018, and they will fancy another shutout against the Magpies, who usually adopt an ultra-defensive setup against the elite Premier League clubs.
