Manchester United have completed their first signing of the winter transfer window with Alexis Sanchez having arrived from Arsenal. The Chile international has inked a four-and-a-half year deal with the Red Devils, and he is likely to become the Premier League’s highest earner.

The 29-year-old had been leaning towards a move to arch-rivals Manchester City earlier in the month, but United acted quickly to hijack the move after they offered a better package which involved Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving the other way.

“I am thrilled to be joining the biggest club in the world. I have spent three-and-a-half wonderful years at Arsenal and I bring with me very positive memories of that great club and its fans. The chance to play in this historic stadium and to work with Jose Mourinho was something I could not turn down,” he told the club’s official website.

The former Barcelona man contributed 80 goals in over 160 appearances for ex-club Arsenal, and he will now look for a fresh start with the Red Devils, for whom he is likely to make a definitive role in the quest to win silverware this term.

Manchester United have a fourth-round FA Cup tie against struggling League Two side Yeovil Town on Friday night, and the game could be the perfect platform for Sanchez to make his mark in the Red Devils shirt.

Anthony Martial has been sparkling form of late with goals in three consecutive league games from the left wing, and Sanchez could begin his United career on the right flank, where he played during his time at Barcelona.
