Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba predicted Anthony Martial’s return to the France setup earlier in the campaign. The 24-year-old spoke about his compatriot prior to the Champions League triumph over Basel, where he sustained a hamstring injury.
Speaking to MUTV, he said: “I am sure he will come back. I am sure as he is very good and had a great pre-season. Even during the start of the season, he helped the team a lot.
Anthony is a big, big, big talent. He’s a talented player – one of the best players I have ever seen or trained with. He will improve a lot and you are going to see even more of Anthony, I’m sure.”
Pogba has been spot on in predicting Martial’s return to Didier Deschamps’ squad, and the 21-year-old now has the opportunity of cementing his place for the long-term with strong performances versus Wales and World Cup champions Germany.
Martial has largely played second fiddle to Marcus Rashford on the left side of the attack, but he has nevertheless made an impact with four Premier League goals – coming off the bench.
The former Monaco graduate has also won back-to-back Player of the Month accolades for United, and he now has the task of maintaining his consistency over the course of the season.
Martial has not quite looked at his best while playing from the off, and he could get an opportunity to rectify this statistic during the festive schedule, where Mourinho is certain to rotate his squad.
