Barcelona might have been playing some nice football so far this season under Hansi Flick but their familiar financial issues have come back to haunt them just days into the new calendar year.

As things stands, the Catalan club are unable to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for La Liga.

Olmo signed for the club back in the summer for a reported £45.6m fee and an injury to Andreas Christensen helped Barcelona register the ex-RB Leipzig man for La Liga, albeit on a temporary basis. Now, the club don’t have the room to do the same.

Even as Barcelona continue to work against the clock to make it happen, as per Ostthuringer Zeitung [image attached at the end], Dani Olmo has a clause in his contract which he can trigger and become a free agent, should he desire to leave the Catalan club due to these registration issues.

If so, as per OTZ, Dani Olmo could secure a ‘lightning-fast’ free transfer to Man Utd to continue his career. Local rivals Man City have also been touted as a possible destination with European giants, Bayern Munich, also getting a mention although a move to the Bavarians is expected to be unlikely.

Olmo has a contract with Barcelona until 2030 and should he trigger that clause, the Spanish club will have to pay him every penny of his contract, right up until the end.

That said, the 26-year-old’s advisor has reiterated the player’s desire to stay committed to the Catalan side.

The European champion is one of the very best in the world in his position and not many can hold a candle to him when it comes to playing in-between the lines.

He has an innate ability to escape pressure, something that comes naturally to him. He would be the ideal long term replacement for Bruno Fernandes.

Despite all the uncertainty at Barcelona however, it would be a surprise to see Dani Olmo leave a club he has called home for a significant period of his career, especially for a struggling club like Man Utd.
