Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson feels Manchester United will have a tough test on their hands against Southampton, although he predicts that they will secure all three points on Saturday afternoon.
Manchester United have secured four wins in their opening five league games – with three of them being by a 4-0 scoreline. Merson has yet to be convinced by United’s rollicking start to the new season but expects them to come up triumphs at St.Mary’s.
“I’ve not completely bought into the United hype just yet – people are raving about them but I thought Everton were bang unlucky for 20 minutes at the start of the second half at Old Trafford,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“In the end United produced a flurry of late goals, like they did against Swansea, and the score looked much better than the game suggested. This is a big test for United but I think they pass it.”
Merson has predicted a 2-0 victory for United over their South Coast counterparts, and Mourinho would be satisfied with a similar result as Southampton are known to be stubborn at home.
The Red Devils are unbeaten in their previous six meetings at Southampton with four wins and two draws, and the recent form of Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku should be sufficient to push for a comfortable win.
Manchester United currently have an identical record to rivals Manchester City at the top of the standings but are only second to the Citizens on alphabetical order.
