Arsenal legend-turned-pundit Paul Merson has backed Manchester United to clinch a convincing victory over Everton in Sunday’s Premier League game at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have made a quick start to their league campaign with 10 points from the opening four games, and Merson believes that United will secure a comfortable 3-0 win over their Merseyside counterparts.
Paul Pogba is set to miss up to six weeks due to a muscular problem sustained in the Champions League opener against Basel, but Merson is confident that Marouane Fellaini will step up following his man of the match performance in midweek.
He told Sky Sports: “Paul Pogba has been playing well and will be a miss, although not in this game. Marouane Fellaini will come in and will probably cause Everton problems. They will be alright for this game without Pogba.”
Fellaini came on as a first-half substitute for Pogba on Tuesday night and changed the complexion of the game by heading in the opener before the break. The Belgian also provided an assist for Marcus Rashford late on, and he could potentially compete with Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick for the vacant midfield role.
Manchester United drew 1-1 in both league outings against Everton last term, but Jose Mourinho will be expecting a better performance versus the Toffees, who are positioned 16th in the league standings.
