Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has credited Michael Carrick for his game-changing against Manchester City on Saturday.
The Red Devils found themselves trailing by a 2-0 scoreline at half-time after a lacklustre performance, but managed to turn things around following the break.
Pogba was huge instrumental in the turnaround with two goals in the space of 97 seconds whilst Chris Smalling grabbed the winner to ensure City’s title celebrations are prolonged.
The Frenchman was literally non-existent in the first-half like several other players, but he singlehandedly dragged the team back into the game with a match-winning brace.
Speaking after the 3-2 derby win, Pogba was quick to appreciate the advice from Carrick, who had urged him to make runs into the opposition box more often.
He told Sky Sports: “I give the credit to Michael [Carrick] because every time after the game he shows me the video, make those runs. He has helped me a lot with this, every time after training or every time after a game he will say, ‘It’s very important, nobody can stop you.’”
Carrick was not involved actively on the pitch on Saturday, but it is always pleasing to note that he is able to have an influence on the players on the field.
The 36-year-old is due to end his playing career at the end of the season, but he will remain involved with the club in a coaching capacity which should benefit the upcoming talents.
