‘He can play anywhere’ — This Utd Star Is On The Same Level as Kylian Mbappe: Phil Neville

Manchester United legend-turned-pundit Phil Neville believes Marcus Rashford is on the same level as Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele following his stunning performance against Burton Albion in the third round of the League Cup.

The England international scored a brace in the 4-1 triumph over the Championship club with the second goal coming through a fierce drive from just outside of the box. Rashford capped a fine individual performance as he set up Anthony Martial for the United’s fourth goal.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville insisted that the 19-year-old is in the same bracket as Mbappe and Dembele, although he does not receive a similar recognition. The former Champions League winner added that Rashford has the potential to become world-class after scoring goals on a regular basis his term.

“Everybody praises Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe but nobody talks about Rashford in this country. Because he’s English we just say ‘he plays on the left wing, he’s OK’. He is up there with Dembele and Mbappe, who also play on either wing. People say you have to play Rashford as a centre forward but you can play him anywhere because he is good enough,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“He broke in under Louis van Gaal and set the world on fire, in his second season under Jose Mourinho everyone thought he wouldn’t play but he did in all the big games. Now he is adding goals to his game and he can be absolutely world class.”

Rashford has now taken his goal tally to five for the campaign, and he could be eyeing a 20-plus goal season with just a month of football having passed. The teenager has also shone with the Three Lions with a goal and two assists in the recent World Cup qualifiers.

Manchester United will now shift their attention towards Premier League football where they face Mauricio Pellegrino’s Southampton at St.Mary’s on Saturday afternoon.
