[Picture] Di Maria Faces Backlash From Angry United Fans

It was only roughly a year ago that the proposed move for Angel Di Maria excited United fans everywhere as for once it seemed the Reds were taking one of Real Madrid’s prized assets rather than losing one to them.

The Argentinean may have cost a whopping £59 million and change but it all seemed worth it with some superb early displays that helped keep a wobbling United ship from going completely under during the first ten games. Since then Di Maria has shown glimpses of the reason the Reds forked out so much for him but as the season wore on those ‘glimpses’ became fewer and fewer and were outweighed by some frankly shocking performances. The nadir of the former Real star’s season was arguably at Anfield, where despite playing a role in Juan Mata’s winner, Di Maria looked by and large like someone who’d won a competition to play for a Premier League club for the day, at one point even catching the ball while still on the pitch.

United’s record-signing wasn’t helped by a break-in at his home which seemed to completely derail him, but even so- there’s little point in denying Di Maria completely lost the ability to become a match winner for the Reds. Some fans felt another season would do him good and we’d see the player who arrived around 12 months ago, while others believed his heart was no longer at Old Trafford and it was time to move him on.

Di Maria is reportedly ready to sign for Paris Saint Germain any moment, as the Mail notes:

Angel di Maria has arrived in Doha, Qatar ahead of his medical to finalise his £44.4million transfer from Manchester United to Paris Saint-Germain.

The 27-year-old winger flew from Argentina via Sao Paulo to Doha, where he posed for photos at the airport.

The winger will undergo a medical at the Aspire centre on Monday morning before taking a connection to Paris to complete the formalities of his move.

It’s not the fact that Di Maria is leaving that has upset so many United fans but the manner of his departure which seems to smack of an unwillingness on the player’s part to fight for his Old Trafford career- something that has caused a backlash from Reds on social media. As the above picture shows the winger has been labelled a ‘snake’ and a ‘coward’ by some fans.

Will Di Maria become a success in Paris? Probably. But there’ll be very few United fans wishing him well.
