Player Ratings: Sevilla 0-0 Manchester United, David de Gea steals the show

Manchester United settled for a rather disappointing goalless draw versus Sevilla on Wednesday night. Jose Mourinho’s men lacked the cutting edge in the attack front for the most of the game, and they had to thank David de Gea for keeping the scores at 0-0 for 90 minutes.

Player Ratings:

David de Gea: The Spain international was assured in goal for United, and he managed to oversee most of Sevilla’s shots with ease. His most defining moment came prior to half-time after making a sublime close save from Luis Muriel – 8.5/10

Antonio Valencia: Managed to keep Angel Correa within his reach for most of the game. However, the skipper produced very little in the attacking point of view in the match – 6/10

Victor Lindelof: Put in another composed performance at the heart of the defence barring one mistake in the first period. The Swede could have contributed more by fielding long-balls towards his attackers – 6.5/10

Chris Smalling: Despite his recent criticism, the Englishman bagged another clean sheet for the campaign. His positioning still remains a bit of a concern, especially during set-pieces – 6.5/10

Ashley Young: Was solid with his work assigned in the left-back position, but struggled to offer anything in the forward department like Valencia. Barring linked with Alexis Sanchez on the left side of the attack – 6/10

Nemanja Matic: The Serbian picked up the loose balls and intercepted play on a number of occasions. Could not link-up much with Pogba with another confined performance in the centre of the park – 6/10

Scott McTominay: Probably the second-best performer after David de Gea. The youngster did a credible job on his Champions League knockout debut, and his distribution improved as the game went on – 7.5/10

Ander Herrera: Lasted only for the first quarter of the game, before he pulled up with a potential hamstring injury. This is likely to come as a huge blow for United, considering Marouane Fellaini is also sidelined – N/A

Juan Mata: Tried to find Lukaku during the early phase of the game, but was more of a passenger in the second period with Sevilla dominating the proceedings in the United half – 5.5/10

Alexis Sanchez: Not the best start to his Champions League debut with United. The Chilean was the subject of multiple tackles from Sevilla early on, and the frustration seemed to affect his overall game – 6/10

Romelu Lukaku: The Belgian had one genuine chance in the first-half which he should have gone with his laces. Barring this, the striker fought for every ball passed/crossed into him and provided a physical presence around the Sevilla defence – 7/10

Substitutes:

Paul Pogba: The Frenchman tried to link-up with his fellow attackers, but his play was very restrictive. Looked a yard short of pace after his recent illness, and will hope for a better performance versus Chelsea – 6/10

Marcus Rashford – N/A

Anthony Martial – N/A
