Back in August, Manchester United opted to hand their captain, Bruno Fernandes, a new and lucrative deal.

However, the Portuguese international has been average on the field in the current campaign and is yet to find the net after making 11 appearances in all competitions.

Therefore, it is not surprising to see Manchester United linked with quality attacking midfielders and the name of Florian Wirtz is in the focus.

According to Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils want to lure the German international, who is also on the wish-lists of Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

The renowned Sky journalist has mentioned that Bayer Leverkusen would prefer to sell him abroad, so, that rules out a move to Bayern. On the other hand, the Bundesliga champions see a move to Real Madrid next summer as unrealistic.

However, Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool offer tough competition to Manchester United as for now, the Premier League trio can offer much better sporting projects to Florian Wirtz as compared to the Old Trafford outfit.

Nevertheless, Fernandes has entered his 30s and is not performing at the top level for now. If he does not step up then United must sign a replacement and there are very few No.10s in the world that are better than the Leverkusen star.

Wirtz netted 18 goals and provided 20 assists in all competitions for Xabi Alonso last term as Die Werkself won the domestic double.

This term, so far, the 21-year-old playmaker, who is valued at around £99.9million, has directly contributed in 5 goals in 6 league starts. We can see him in action in a few hours against Frankfurt.

Do you think Manchester United can beat the heavy competition to sign Florian Wirtz?
