Manchester United will look to extend their two-match Premier League winning streak when they take on Watford at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night. Jose Mourinho’s side have a crunch league game at Arsenal over the weekend, and the manager could still stick with his best lineup as the Hornets are no pushovers under Marco Silva this term.
David de Gea kept his ninth clean sheet of the campaign during last weekend’s 1-0 win over Brighton. The Spain international is certain to start between the sticks at Vicarage Road.
Both Eric Bailly and Phil Jones could miss out through injury, and this could see Victor Lindelof retain his spot alongside Chris Smalling at centre-back after his standout showing on Saturday.
Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young are similarly strong contenders to retain the right and left-back positions. Young made the all-important shot last weekend which led to United’s deflected goal.
Paul Pogba managed to last the full 90 minutes against Brighton and this is a good sign for United heading into the festive schedule. The Frenchman could be backed to start alongside Nemanja Matic in central midfield.
Further forward, the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial could take their places on the left and right side of the attack, but Mourinho may opt to replace Juan Mata with Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the number 10 role.
Mata lost possession of the ball all too often against Brighton, and this could offer Mkhitaryan a much-needed start after receiving strong criticism from the manager for disappearing in games.
Upfront, Romelu Lukaku is likely to keep his position despite receiving struggling versus Brighton. Apart from his chance from near-point-blank range, Lukaku could not make much of an impress in the Seagulls box.
