Predicted 3-4-1-2 Manchester United lineup vs Chelsea – without Romelu Lukaku

Manchester United face-off against Chelsea in Saturday’s FA Cup final at the Wembley Stadium. Jose Mourinho’s side ended their Premier League campaign in the runner-up position and they now have the opportunity to secure a joint-record 13th FA Cup title.

Formation: 3-4-1-2

Lineup:

David de Gea was rested for the final game of the Premier League campaign but he should return for the FA Cup final. Sergio Romero has been the usual pick for the Cup competitions this term but the Argentine is likely to be left disappointed with a bench role.

Mourinho tried out a three-man backline during the recent goalless draw at West Ham United and the Portuguese could go with a similar formation against Chelsea to add more solidity at the heart of the backline. In this case, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly should be among the leading contenders to partner Chris Smalling, who has been the manager’s common pick since the turn of the year.

Moving forward, Antonio Valencia should take up the right wing-back role with Ashley Young on the opposite end whilst we are fancying a two-man midfield with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic making the starting lineup ahead of Ander Herrera.

On the attack, Jesse Lingard could slot into the number 10 position with his improved goalscoring ability of late. The Englishman is likely behind Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez, who may form a two-man strike partnership upfront.

Romelu Lukaku has returned to first-team training after receiving treatment from Belgian specialists over an ankle problem but with just a few days left to build up his fitness, the marksman could be restricted to a bench role against his former side.

Predicted Lineup (3-4-1-2): David de Gea; Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling; Antonio Valencia, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Ashley Young; Jesse Lingard; Marcus Rashford, Alexis Sanchez
