Quite possibly the biggest game of the season so far and with a win, there is no doubt that there will be a huge confidence boost for all involved. This is my predicted starting eleven for the game against Chelsea.
In a 442 diamond formation;
GK: David De Gea
After a spectacular game against Everton, arguably winning us the game, De Gea seems to be on a confident form despite conceding 2 goals from 2 shots against West Brom.
RB: Rafael
Getting back into his form, Rafael is slowly becoming an important member of the squad with his attacking presence on the right side, offering help with overlaps and providing crosses into the box.
CB: Phil Jones
Back from injury, he enjoyed a good game against West Brom where he was, at most times, able to successfully get rid of the balls floated in the box and passes.
CB: Jonny Evans
Following a summer move to Manchester, Rojo has enjoyed his start at Man Utd, playing a crucial part in the defence. However, he looked worringly nervous against West Brom and with a game of such important, Van Gaal may look to Jonny Evans to take his role if he is fit enough after recovering from a ankle injury.
LB: Luke Shaw
After admitting he isn’t on his best form, it’s no doubt that Luke Shaw, brought up in a family that supports Chelsea, will look to make an impression against Chelsea, who were also in the race to sign him in the summer.
CDM: Daley Blind
Proving to be essential to the Man Utd squad, Blind will look to keep his place just infront of the defence against Chelsea following scoring his first goal for the club against West Brom.
CM: Marouane Fellaini
Coming off the bench against both Everton and West Brom, he is likely to start the game, replacing injured Herrera, as he had a great impact against West Brom and Van Gaal could look to use Fellaini’s physical strengths to hurt Chelsea.
CM: Angel di Maria
It’s will be no surprise to see di Maria starting against Chelsea as he’s quickly secured a crucial role at Man Utd, getting 3 goals and 4 assists in the 6 games since joining Man Utd. However, there could be a possibility that he sits the game out through an injury he picked up against West Brom.
CAM: Juan Mata
Despite a poor game against West Brom, it is likely to see Juan Mata face former club, Chelsea, for the first time since joining Man Utd in January and with a good current form, he could look to prove Mourinho wrong.
ST: Robin Van Persie
Yet to be dropped, it is likely to see Van Persie start the game against Chelsea, despite some seeing his form to be poor and after an ineffective role against West Brom, he will certaintly look to impress against the league leaders.
ST: Radamel Falcao
After starting on the bench vs West Brom due the jetlag, Falcao could make a return to the starting lineup against Chelsea, who he proved to be lethal a couple years ago as he struck a first half hat-trick for At. Madrid.
