The Reds begin their US tour with a game against Mexican side Club America at the CenturyLink field in Seattle. For Louis Van Gaal it represents the chance to give debuts to some of his new signings and maybe offer the younger players a taste of the first team.
Last season’s Summer tour couldn’t have gone much better for the Reds as the likes of Roma and Liverpool were defeated as the manager’s 3-5-2 formation seemed to be the way forward. Pre-season may have been something of a false dawn in the last campaign but it did offer the likes of Tyler Blackett a chance to show he was capable of doing a job for the senior side.
With a squad of 26 to choose from Van Gaal can afford to mix it up somewhat and use his substitutes generously so it wouldn’t be a shock if we see every single player who’s traveled play at least some part on the tour.
Here’s how the Reds could line up for the game early this morning:
4-2-3-1
David De Gea, Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling, Paddy McNair, Luke Shaw, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Adnan Januzaj, Juan Mata, Memphis Depay, Wayne Rooney.
