Pundit: I wouldn’t be surprised if 26-year-old joins Manchester United

Player turned pundit Jermaine Jenas believes Antoine Griezmann might still join Manchester United at the beginning of next season despite Atletico Madrid’s reluctance to let go of the French international.

Flamboyant striker Antoine Griezmann has been under the radar of English giants Manchester United for some time now and the Red Devils were believed to be desperate to land the French international to bolster their attack before they signed Romelu Lukaku from Everton over the summer.

Now with United lagging behind Manchester City by a quite considerable margin in the Premier League table, the Red Devils are expected to revive their interest in the 26-year-old during the next summer transfer window.

While there is also interest from Barcelona, United have been long regarded as the most likely destination for Griezmann and former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes that the Premier League giants will be able to land the French international at the end of the season.

Jenas told BBC Radio 5 Live, “Griezmann is available now. He is another one [Man United could sign]. He was the first one [linked with Man United]. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at Old Trafford next year.”

United will need to pay a huge amount to sign Griezmann as the Frenchman’s contract at Atletico runs until 2022 but with Diego Costa arriving to the club, the Spanish side might be more open to parting with their star for the right price.
