Rashford to lead the line, 4-2-3-1: Predicted Manchester United lineup to face Southampton

Manchester United will seek to solidify the second position in the Premier League standings when they host Southampton at Old Trafford this weekend. The Red Devils have attained back-to-back draws in the top-flight for the first time this campaign, but Jose Mourinho is likely to stick with most of his players from the previous matchday.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Lineup:

David de Gea has now kept a clean sheet in the last three matches, but most of the fault has lied with the defence which has failed to restrict the opposition threat. The Spain international is set to start in goal this weekend.

The full-backs could remain the same from the previous outing with Ashley Young and Luke Shaw playing on the right and left side of the backline respectively. However, Victor Lindelof could get another start ahead of Marcos Rojo in central defence alongside Phil Jones.

Paul Pogba has not had the best of times this month, but the Frenchman is still assured of a starting role alongside Nemanja Matic, who has been one of the ever-presents in the United midfield.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic largely struggled to make an impact in the support striker role, and Mourinho is likely to replace him with Jesse Lingard with Juan Mata and Anthony Martial playing either side.

Romelu Lukaku looked a bit jaded during the 2-2 draw versus Burnley, and the Southampton game could be ideal to offer him a rest in place of Marcus Rashford, who has played in his shadows of late.

The young Englishman has struggled to make an impact from a wider role, and he could benefit from leading the line, as his pace and dribbling skills could prove a handful for a Saints’ backline minus Virgil van Dijk.
