Rashford Start, 4-2-3-1: Strongest Manchester United’s XI vs Newcastle

Manchester United will look to return to winning ways when they face off against Newcastle United in the Premier League this weekend. The Red Devils succumbed to just their second defeat of the campaign at Stamford Bridge earlier this month, and Jose Mourinho will aim to avoid any further setbacks in order to keep up with leaders Manchester City, who are eight points ahead at the top of the table.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Lineup:

David de Gea has been one of the many ever-presents in the United lineup this term, and he is certain to keep his place in goal. Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young have been regulars on either side of the central defence, and they are assured of their places in the right and left-back positions. With Phil Jones deemed doubtful, Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling will slot into the heart of the defence.

Paul Pogba may not be risked from the off after recently recovering from a hamstring problem. In this case, Marouane Fellaini and Nemanja Matic could command the central midfield positions with Ander Herrera likely to drop to the bench after an extended run of games.

Marcus Rashford is pretty much the first-choice ahead of Anthony Martial on the left side of the attack, and he could be accompanied by Jesse Lingard on the right wing, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the number 10 role. Mkhitaryan has looked out of sorts since early October, but Mourinho could probably persist with the Armenian to get him back to his best.

Up front, Romelu Lukaku is guaranteed his spot despite failing to find the net for United in seven matches. The Belgian netted an impressive brace in the 3-3 draw versus Mexico last week, and he will set his sights on scoring against a Newcastle defence, which has been solid in the opening stages of the campaign.
