Jose Mourinho wants to bring Raphael Varane from Real Madrid to Old Trafford in an exchange deal for David de Gea, in case the Galacticos submit an offer.
Manchester United already signed Victor Lindelof as a new centre-back this summer, but it seems that the Portuguese tactician would like to add more quality to his defense. Mourinho is desperate to keep De Gea and will only allow him to leave if Real send Varane the other way. The French defender is an emerging star at Santiago Bernabeu, and after Pepe’s departure, he is set to become a leader of the defense.
Real could reject this idea because their No. 1 defensive target Leonardo Bonucci moved from Juventus to Milan, and now they’re desperate to keep Varane. It’s like a game of chess for Mourinho who noticed Real’s weak spot at the moment and practically will give an ultimatum to Florentino Perez, which will place Real’s president in an awkward position.
It is known that the Galacticos are interested in De Gea for years now, but they will have to pay a hefty price to lure him from Old Trafford. Not only that Mourinho will not accept an offer below £50 million, but will try to force Real to part ways with one of the most talented defenders in Europe. After all, Man United are not desperate to sell De Gea, and the gaffer thinks that getting a world class defender in return would be a good deal.
This proposal may cool off Real’s interest in the Spanish No. 1, and that’s probably Mourinho’s intention, but in case Real accept it, Man United will end up with some high-quality centre-backs. Also, They would need to sell one of two of them, and Chris Smalling is to one who will probably be axed.
