Real Madrid are reportedly maintaining their interest in Manchester United’s David de Gea despite the transfer window coming to a close. The Spain international agreed to join Los Blancos in a part exchange deal involving Keylor Navas back in 2015, but the paperwork could not be sorted out before the transfer deadline.
De Gea has since remained loyal to United by extending his contract by a further four years, but according to Don Balon, Los Blancos feel they owe him for his failed transfer two years ago. It is no secret that the 26-year-old could prefer a return to Madrid in the future, and the European champions are prepared to try their luck at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.
Earlier this summer, Jose Mourinho insisted that De Gea, who is currently on a £200,000 a-week package, has no thoughts of sealing a return home, and Real Madrid are likely to have a battle on their hands to pursue the one-time Premier League winner. De Gea is currently contracted at Old Trafford until the summer of 2019, but the club have the option of prolonging his stay by a further year via a clause.
De Gea has been ever-present for Manchester United this season, having featured in all Premier League games as well as the European Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid.
