Manchester United target Gareth Bale could reportedly consider his future at the Bernabeu, should Zinedine Zidane remain Real Madrid’s head coach beyond the summer.
Jose Mourinho had publicly expressed an interest in the Wales international in August 2017, but ultimately chose not to pursue the 28-year-old after he was in the plans of Zidane.
However, things have since not gone right for the Welshman, who has struggled with injuries and fitness concerns, and he is now seemingly eyeing a fresh challenge, having failed to cement a regular role.
According to The Mirror, Bale’s teammates at Los Blancos believe that he could be headed for the Premier League, if the club opt against replacing Zidane during the summer.
It is added that United would have to cough up a club-record sum of £90m to prise him away from Madrid with the assurance of making him the club’s highest-earner ahead of Alexis Sanchez.
Clearly, United’s alleged interest in Bale may not materialise during the summer, considering Mourinho is more focused on strengthening the midfield and defensive departments.
Moreover, Alexis Sanchez has been brought to add more competition within the attack front, and the club potentially gambling over Bale appears slim, given his injury record over the past 20 months.
