According to reports from ESPN, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho did not shake the hand of Stoke City boss Mark Hughes because the Welshman was trying to get him sent off.
Manchester United and Stoke City played out an exhilarating 2-2 draw at the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday and the match was certainly an explosive one both on and off the pitch.
Following the game, the headlines were dominated by the fact that United boss Jose Mourinho refused to shake the hand of his counterpart Mark Hughes and after the incident, the Stoke manager revealed that the Portuguese tactician did not indulge in a handshake due to a shove.
Hughes said in the post-match conference, “I pushed him because he was in my technical area. Maybe that is why he didn’t want to shake my hand.
“It has to be viewed as a negative result for him. Sometimes managers of top six clubs don’t take negative results too kindly. Maybe he reacted in the wrong way. In fairness I have my history with handshakes. Maybe it’s me.”
Mourinho on the other hand, had a very angry reaction when questioned about the non-handshake and stormed off from his press conference after saying, “I prefer not to answer the question because your question is a bad question. Because it looks like is my fault, is my problem.
“And your question is not correct, I am sorry. I don’t speak about stupid things, I’m too old for that, talking about stupid things is for stupid people.”
Now according to reports from ESPN, claims have been made that Mourinho did not want to shake the hands of Hughes due to the fact that the Stoke boss had asked referee Neil Swarbrick to send him to the stands after the United manager had entered into the home technical area before telling him to “f— off.”
