Manchester United are playing the second game of the US pre-season tour against Real Salt Lake City, following a 5-2 win over LA Galaxy, a couple of days ago.
Jose Mourinho’s side impressed in the opening match, while Marcus Rashford particularly stole the show with the first half brace. Fellaini, Martial, and Mkhitaryan also scored, and the Portuguese tactician deployed a 3-5-2 formation in the second half. This summer’s arrivals, Lukaku and Lindelof, both had goal-scoring chances and missed, but still played well on their respective debuts.
Real Salt Lake are not having the best season as they’re currently in the 9th position in the Western Conference, with two points behind the Galaxy. Coincidentally, Salt Lake’s last match was against Los Angeles, and Real demolished them, 6-2. Few players such as Yura Movsisyan, Albert Rusnak, and Joao Plata can cause problems to United’s defense, but the Red Devils are surely expected to beat their opponents.
Real’s coach Mike Petke is aware that his team is in the middle of the season and he sees this clash as a training match. “Considering the timing of it, I think we’ll try to use it as a training session,” he said. “So there will be a lot of tactical emphasis on the way we are going to play against Portland. It will be constructive from that point of view and hopefully we’ll get through it unscathed,” Petke concluded.
The game will take place at Rio Tinto Stadium, Sandy, Utah tonight at 3 am GMT.
