Manchester United supporters were pleased with the performance of Romelu Lukaku despite Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United in the Premier League. The loss ended any thoughts of challenging for this season’s Premier League title whilst Jose Mourinho’s winless managerial streak at Tyneside continued.
Lukaku has received plenty of stick for his ability to perform in the big games, but he was probably the standout performer for United during the visit to St James Park. Though, Lukaku could not clear sight at goal, he managed to link-up with his teammates for a few goalscoring opportunities including one where Alexis Sanchez rounded the goalkeeper only to delay his shot which was eventually intercepted.
Lukaku's link up play has been brilliant today and has been steadily improving all season but I'm sure he'll still get slated for it next time he takes any kind of bad touch

Romelu Lukaku’s overall game has improved hugely this season. Now looks comfortable in picking the right passes and executes them. Has been really good.

Lukaku's hold up & link up play is on a different level to what it was before he joined United. Made a big improvement with his ball retention.

Wrong. De Gea didn't have anything to do. Can't ragte him. Lukaku was the only good player on the pitch for us.

When Lukaku first arrived at Old Trafford, he was known mostly for his physical presence and his ability to score goals. However, his link-up play has vastly improved as the season has gone on, though Sanchez could not take advantage of a brilliant reverse pass which should have been converted into the opener versus Newcastle.
Lukaku’s position was seemingly under threat with Zlatan Ibrahimovic returning to the matchday squad in November, but the Swede’s fitness concerns have made the Belgian the undisputed centre-forward under Jose Mourinho.
