Report: Jose Mourinho sends scouts to watch highly-rated left-back

Manchester United are reported to be keeping tabs on highly-rated Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney. The 20-year-old is regarded as one of Scotland’s most promising prospects after having established himself as a regular with the Hoops.

According to The Daily Record, United talent spotters were in attendance during Celtic’s 4-0 rout of Dundee United in the Scottish League Cup quarter-final earlier in the week.

It is added that the Red Devils have been monitoring Tierney’s progress for a while after having previously run the rule over him during the Hoop’s 5-0 Champions League thumping against Paris Saint-Germain.

The left-back spot has been a position of concern for Jose Mourinho since the start of the season with Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young and Luke Shaw all featuring there.

However, there has not been a strong performance from any of the above-mentioned with Shaw, in particular, fighting for his future under the Portuguese manager.

United are likely to be assessing Shaw’s future in the next couple of months, and it will be interesting to see whether the club firm their interest in Tierney after watching him on multiple occasions.

Manchester United visit Southampton in their next league outing on Saturday afternoon.
