Man United are constantly linked with Portuguese international Bruno Fernandes and as per latest reports, the transfer saga has taken yet another twist.
Few days back, A Bola reported that the Red Devils are clearly in the front line to lure the attacker from Sporting CP.
On the other hand, Record reported that United are interested but Tottenham are very close to signing the 24-year-old Primeira Liga star.
Transfer: Man Utd prepared to offer close to £80million to win race and secure signing
As per the latest update provided by The Mail, Man City have already distanced themselves from the attacking midfielder and now, Spurs have ruled out a move for the Seleccao star clearing the way for Man Utd to secure the signing.
A Bola claimed that Sporting CP are looking for a fee of 70-80 million euros (£62m-£71 million) for their prized asset. However, the British source (The Mail) have claimed that the Portuguese giants are demanding a fee of £50million.
I think the above mentioned fee is not really very high for someone, who is at the peak of his game and directly contributed in 50 goals in the last campaign (53 appearances in all competitions).
United’s two main center forwards Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford scored a combined 28 goals in all competitions. On the other hand, Fernandes alone netted 32 times for Sporting CP.
We do not have a quality CAM in our squad. Mata is a naturally a CAM but the veteran is past his best and last season, he was mainly utilized on the right wing and did not even start regularly. The Spaniard is going to be out of contract at the end of this month.
Lingard can play in the No. 10 position but he was also utilized out-wide and the England international was highly inconsistent. Therefore, a top star, who can effectively play in the hole behind the striker, should be lured.
In such a scenario, Fernandes, who mainly plays in the central attacking midfield role for Sporting CP, would be a top signing. We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the coming days.
Fernandes looks like he is a player of genuine quality but top flight Portuguese football isn’t as demanding as the Premier League and there is no guarantee that he would settle in straight away. I’d be very happy if he signed for United but Woodward will need to strengthen the team in every area if Fernandez is to have any chance of replicating last season’s form and numbers.
