The Old Trafford outfit want to replace Casemiro with a top quality defensive midfielder and the Portuguese international is one of the hottest prospects around.

His release clause is worth 120 million euros but a fee of 100 million euros (£86million) could be enough to get the signing done.

Record state that along with Neves, center back, Antonio Silva, who has a termination clause of £86million, ‘can also go to’ Man Utd.

The Red Devils need to reinforce their shaky backline and the midfield needs a complete overhaul, therefore, the £172million worth duo are wanted.

However, the famous Portuguese news source have mentioned that Benfica hope to hold on to Joao Neves for at least another year.

If they have to sell a player in the current transfer window, they would prefer to lose Antonio Silva.

Benfica have only conceded 27 goals in 32 league games this term so far and the 20-year-old center back has helped the team keep 14 clean sheets (Transfermarkt).

Have your say – Should Man Utd splash around £172million to sign Neves and Silva?
