What makes this final especially intriguing is the context: both clubs are languishing in 15th and 16th place in the league. Yet, with Champions League qualification and a major trophy on the line, this match could be a dramatic turning point in an otherwise underwhelming season for both sides.
In the upcoming summer, Man Utd have major decisions to make, both in terms of arrivals and departures and there are many players in the squad who could end up leaving. One of those names might be Marcus Rashford.
The Englishman wants Barcelona?
As per Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Manchester’s home-grown talent Marcus Rashford, who is currently on loan at Aston Villa after falling out with Ruben Amorim and the player is ready to secure an exit from the English club.
As per the report, the player has offered himself to Spanish giants Barcelona through his agent Pini Zahavi, who is said to have a good relationship with the Catalan club. However, Rashford will have to make some financial sacrifices.
The Englishman currently earns around £325,000 a week on his current contract with Man Utd but a cash-strapped Barcelona are unlikely to be offer similar wages to him. However, it has been mentioned that the 27-year-old is willing to take a cut.
Most viable option
As for Rashford, his future remains up in the air. His loan spell at Aston Villa has shown flashes of promise, with solid cameos and starting roles alike.
While Unai Emery’s side does hold the option to sign him permanently, the pull of Barcelona and a fresh start abroad could sway the 27-year-old’s decision.
For Manchester United, the ideal scenario would be a clean transfer, not another loan. But with Rashford reportedly open to a pay cut and actively pursuing a move to Spain, only time will tell how it all plays out.
