Manchester United had the second best defensive record in the Premier League and conceded only 28 goals last season. In the current campaign, so far, they have already let in 51 goals.
Therefore, things must be resolved at the back and for that, Solskjaer needs to sign top quality players in the summer transfer window.
According to reports going on in the media, the Red Devils are linked with Tottenham star Kieran Trippier.
Transfer: Man Utd could splash £104million to secure major signing
As per Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United and Napoli are competing to sign Trippier and the biggest obstacle for the Italian side is that the England international would prefer to move to Old Trafford.
The renowned Italian journalist has stated that Spurs are asking for a fee of 35 million euros (£30million) for the 28-year-old defender, however, on April 21, The Express reported that the north Londoners would demand a fee of £40million.
Opinion:
As far as Man United’s right back position is concerned, veterans like Young and Valencia must depart the club. Diogo Dalot is inexperienced, therefore an experienced RB should be bought and Trippier certainly fits the bill.
So far, the Spurs star has played 16 times for The Three Lions and he was a key member of Gareth Southgate’s squad that earned fourth place at the World Cup last year.
In the current campaign, he has so far featured in 34 games under Pochettino, scored 1 goal and provided 5 assists. Trippier is one of the best fullbacks in the league, he is a top crosser of the ball and can hit superb free-kicks as well and I think United should hire his services in the summer.
We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the coming months.
whatever the case, we need a right back, more senior to mentor Diego. He should be one who can complement the RW and cross in those balls like Garry Nevile used to complement Becks;some body remembers that cross from mid the right wing from Garry nodded in by Vanstroy!!! Then Evra crossing by the goal line from the left!!!-that Shaw can do now. That is what we want back at OT, it the time now to regain our Manchester United way.We want Full Backs and Wingers who never fear to cross those balls in,Who dare to do that even when an opponent’s shoe is at them, who can roll over the opponents leg, get up and continue chasing that ball and cross it,who play their heads, hearts and socks out.
