Reports: Jose Mourinho eager to hand fresh contracts to first-team duo

Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on offering fresh contracts to first-team pair Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellaini. The Red Devils are also confident of securing deals for Ander Herrera and David de Gea.

According to The Independent, Mourinho will urge the club’s hierarchy to hold contract talks with Rashford and Fellaini, who are regarded as crucial players in the first-team squad. Rashford has shown immense improvement under Mourinho this term, and he has already notched five goals across all competitions for United. Meanwhile, Fellaini has won over the fans with his recent showing – which includes a goal and assist in a man of the match performance against Basel in the Champions League.

Rashford’s existing deal at Old Trafford runs until the summer of 2020, but Mourinho is hoping to tie him to a fresh contract which matches with his progress. On the other hand, Fellaini has jumped ahead of Herrera in the pecking order for the midfield spot, and the manager is desperate to extend his contract before the turn of the year. Fellaini currently has nine months left on his United contract, and he is alleged to have already turned down a one-year extension at Old Trafford.

Spanish duo Herrera and De Gea are also expected to discuss fresh contracts with Manchester United in the coming weeks, with the former prepared to fight for his position in central midfield.
