“Matter of hours” – Journalist reveals Man Utd “really insisting” on getting attacking signing done

Old Trafford night

It is not that often that the transfer of a 16-year-old garners as much hype as Chido Obi-Martin’s potential move to Manchester United from Arsenal is generating. However, the elite potential the player possesses and the rivalry that the two clubs have between them adds an intriguing layer to the story.

Not all 16-year-olds are Lamine Yamal. The Barcelona wonderkid is clearly an exception to the rule, playing for his club and country as a starter at such a young age. However, Man Utd might just be about to get their hands on one such exception.

Transfer: £60m star prepares to join Man Utd as agreement between clubs is almost done – Report

Obi-Martin scored 32 goals in 19 U-18 games last season for the Gunners but has decided to leave them this summer. The player who is one of Arsenal’s best academy talents is very keen on a move to the Red Devils.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Man Utd’s interest in the teenage sensation and revealed that the transfer is just a ‘matter of hours’.

“On Chido Obi-Martin, Man United are extremely confident. Man United are really confident. Man United are convinced that they can make it happen for Chido Obi-Martin. Chido will decide soon. Could be tonight, could be tomorrow, could be on Tuesday, but it’s a matter of hours, days, and then Chido Obi-Martin will make a decision.”

The Danish prodigy has previously admitted his admiration for his countryman and Man Utd striker Rasmus Hojlund. This might have given him the personal motivation to move to Old Trafford and learn from the 21-year-old striker.

The right-footed striker represented England at the U-16 level but has committed his international future to Denmark, having played for them at the U-17 level. He would benefit from coming to the Man Utd academy where he can learn from some of the very best.

Let’s not forget that Ruud van Nistelrooy is back at the club. Under the tutelage of the new coach, the teenager can hone his skills and progress from being the raw talent that he is to a finished product. Exciting times lie ahead for Obi-Martin.

Of course, he is not expected to break into Erik ten Hag’s first team immediately but if he can continue his development at a similar rate, it is likely to be only a matter of time before he gets his senior bow. The fact that the Red Devils have stolen one of their rivals’ best talent makes this deal even sweeter and let’s hope it can become official very soon.
