Serie A holders Juventus have reportedly emerged as potential candidates to sign Matteo Darmian during the winter transfer window. The Italy international has struggled for regular gametime this season, having fallen down the pecking order for the full-back positions.
According to Football Italia, the Old Lady are looking into a potential deal for Darmian, whose defensive contributions at Old Trafford have been questioned this campaign. The former Torino man has mostly been used on the right side of the defence this term, but even there, he has found himself behind Victor Lindelof, who has acted as cover for the injured Antonio Valencia.
£60,000-a-week defender built up his reputation during his time in the Serie A, and a return could be a prospect with the Old Lady, who appear to be eyeing a cut-price deal for the Italian. The 28-year-old currently has a contract at United until the summer of 2019, and his exit this month would enhance the club’s chances of recouping most of the £14.4m fee spent on his services in 2015.
Despite this, Darmian’s representative has recently clarified that the Italian would be staying put at Old Trafford for the campaign with neither the player nor the club looking to part ways midway through the season.
