Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has acknowledged that the club are interested in securing the signing of Matteo Darmian from Manchester United in the current transfer window.
Darmian has openly admitted that he wants to leave Old Trafford amid his reduced gametime and a deal is most likely to be sanctioned before the transfer deadline approaches next month.
Amidst this, a number of Italian clubs have expressed an interest in the former Torino man and De Laurentiis has ignited the speculation by admitting that his side are in the hunt for the versatile full-back.
“Matteo Darmian on loan with an option to buy? True! I told you were were looking at six profiles, Henrichs of Bayer is also a possibility. We’ll see what happens,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss, via M.E.N.
Aside from Napoli, the likes of Juventus and Inter Milan have also made tentative enquiries regarding the defender but so far, none of them have come close to United’s €2om price tag.
As such, United are likely to drag the transfer saga until the dying stages of the summer transfer window and it will be interesting to see whether Darmian does end up realising his ambition of leaving the club.
Both Antonio Valencia and Diogo Dalot are presently in the treatment room, and Jose Mourinho may have to deploy one of Young, Fosu-Mensah or Lindelof at right-back for the league opener, if Darmian leaves by then.
