Serie A holders Juventus are reportedly interested in finalising a deal for Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian in the summer. The Italy international has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford this term, and he is seemingly open to a return to the Serie A.
According to Calciomercato, the Old Lady have already made initial contact with the player’s representatives, and they are aiming to beat Napoli to Darmian’s signature at the end of the season.
Darmian was bought from Torino back in the summer of 2015 with a view to offering competition to Antonio Valencia, who had tended to struggle in a makeshift right-back role.
However, he has since failed to make a defining impression from the starting lineup, and barring his performances in the backend of the Europa League last term, he has been average on most occasions.
Jose Mourinho has opted to play Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw as regulars in the right and left-back positions respectively, and the presence of Ashley Young, who is capable of playing either side, has hampered Darmian’s chances of earning any gametime.
The Portuguese tactician is said to be planning an overhaul of his defence during the summer transfer window, and Darmian looks set to end his rather unsuccessful spell in the English top-flight.
