Manchester United conceded frequent goals in the start of the campaign but recently, they have been rock solid at the back.
In the last 8 Premier League games, the likes of Maguire and Lindelof have started in the central defense and helped the team keep 5 clean sheets. Moreover, in those fixtures, the Red Devils have only conceded 3 goals in total.
Transfer: Man United told £52million would get forward signing done – Face competition
Not to forget, the Old Trafford outfit have agreed a new contract with Eric Bailly as well. Still, they are linked with top central defenders and one of them is Pau Torres.
According to Italian journalist, Gianluigi Longari, Man Utd are serious about signing the Spanish international and are in concrete talks with Villareal to secure his signature.
The Sport Italia reporter tweeted:
“Manchester United: strong interest and concrete talks for Villarreal CB Pau Torres. He has a release clause of around €65 million.”
In April, Spanish outlet La Razon revealed that the 24-year-old defender will only be sold by the El Madrigal outfit if his release clause of £56.4million is met.
Manchester United paid decent fees to lure the likes of Baily and Lindelof in 2016 and 2017 respectively. On the other hand, they broke the bank to sign current skipper Maguire in 2019. The Three Lions star is the most expensive defender in the game.
Finally, Man Utd’s backline has started to click under Solskjaer, so, do you think there is a need to sign a top CB to break the partnership of Maguire and Lindelof? I think not and instead, Ole should focus on improving key areas in the midfield and in the attacking third.
