Manchester United play host to Championship side Burton Albion in the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday. Jose Mourinho will be expected to ring in the changes for the midweek game with David de Gea and Nemanja Matic among those, who could be potentially rested.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Lineup:
David de Gea has been the regular between the sticks across all competitions, but the League Cup is likely to provide a chance to Sergio Romero, who was impressive in the Europa League last term. Ashley Young could slot back into the right-back spot for the Cup game with Luke Shaw a probable candidate to start on the left side of the backline. Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling are expected to replace Phil Jones and Eric Bailly in central defence.
Onto the midfield, there could be starts for both Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick with the latter yet to place a single minute of competitive football for United. Further forward, Anthony Martial could start on the left side of the attack with Jesse Lingard on the right, while Juan Mata could be slotted into the number ’10’ role. Romelu Lukaku may probably feature from the bench at best against Burton with Rashford a probable candidate to lead the line.
Manchester United (4-2-3-1): Romero; Young, Lindelof, Smalling, Shaw; Carrick, Herrera; Lingard, Mata, Martial; Rashford
