Sky Sports: Manchester United to officially announce signing of 25-year-old midfielder

Manchester United are due to officially unveil the signing of Fred during the ongoing week, Sky Sports has reported. Earlier in the month, United confirmed that a £47m plus deal had been agreed to sign the Brazil international from Shakhtar Donetsk and the 25-year-old is now expected to be registered by the club.

According to Sky Sports, the transfer will officially go through this week with United having sorted out a work permit and finalised personal terms with the midfielder.

Fred is currently at the summer World Cup in Russia and an official unveiling in the club’s shirt may depend on whether he is offered permission from the Brazilian training camp, which appears improbable.

Despite the signing of Fred, Jose Mourinho is widely expected to pursue another central midfielder with Marouane Fellaini due to leave at the expiry of his contract this month.

The likes of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Marco Verratti have been linked with United of late but the manager may seek to pursue a cheaper option, considering Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Fred will most certainly take up the starting roles next term.

Ander Herrera and Scott McTominay are among those, who should provide back-up in the midfield but Andreas Pereira may yet push for a role, should he impress during the pre-season tour of the United States.
