Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp is hopeful that Paul Pogba will make a surprise return when Manchester United take on Antonio Conte’s Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend.
The France international pulled his left hamstring during the 3-0 Champions League triumph over Basel back in mid-September, and he has since played no part in the first-team squad.
Pogba has recently returned to individual training at United’s Carrington base, but Mourinho has revealed that he does not know when the Frenchman will rejoin his teammates.
Despite the uncertainty over Pogba’s situation, Redknapp insists that United would receive a huge boost, should the midfielder make a swift recovery for the west London trip this weekend.
“Pogba didn’t have the best of times last season but he gives this midfield a different dimension. If they can get him in there [for Chelsea], I’m sure they’ll look a lot better team as well,” he told Sky Sports h/t SportReview.
Pogba started the season in prime fashion with two goals and two assists in four top-flight games, and Jose Mourinho will hope that his midfielder returns in a similar vein of form – probably after the international break.
Ander Herrera is currently occupying Pogba’s position in the starting lineup, but the Spaniard has not had the confidence to push further up the field to help out his fellow teammates.
