Sky Sports Pundit Tony Gale has claimed that Nemanja Matic has been the best performing midfielder in the Premier League this term. The Serbia international joined Manchester United in a £40m deal from Stamford Bridge in the summer, and he has since cemented his position at the centre of the park.
Speaking on Sky Sports h/t The Express, Gale highlighted the difference Matic has made to the Red Devils and insists he is the leading midfielder in this season’s top-flight, he said: “I’ll go for Matic because simply he’s made the biggest difference. Obviously, there are more creative central midfield players around and everybody will go to the flare ones. But in terms of the importance to Manchester United, he’s the one for me.”
Despite his strong start at Old Trafford, Matic has stressed that he is still short of his best form after having trained on his own in the summer, aside from his Chelsea teammates.
In the injury absence of Paul Pogba, the Serb has found an impressive partnership alongside Marouane Fellaini, who has managed to win over the fans with his standout showing in recent games.
Fellaini notched three goals during the month of September, and the 29-year-old has firmly established himself as Matic’s partner ahead of last season’s United Player of the Year Ander Herrera.
