Former Arsenal star-turned-pundit Charlie Nicholas believes Manchester United will secure a close win in over Benfica in Wednesday’s Champions League outing from the Estadio da Luz.
Jose Mourinho’s men have remained unbeaten since the opening day of the English campaign, and their form has also boosted their results in Europe with 3-0 and 4-1 victories over FC Basel and CSKA Moscow respectively.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Nicholas feels Mourinho will set up his side to frustrate the opposition, who were one of his fiercest rivals during his early managerial reign with FC Porto, he said: “This is another Jose Mourinho job. Go to an old rival and frustrate them. These are the sort of games he relishes, neutralising the opposition and leaving with a narrow result, 1-2”
Marcus Rashford only came on a second-half substitute in the 0-0 draw versus Liverpool last weekend, but Nicholas feels the England international could feature alongside Juan Mata, who played no part in the Saturday’s Merseyside trip.
Manchester United are presently on six points in Group A, and they are likely to receive plenty of opportunities against the Primeira Liga champions, who face a must-win game after defeats in the first two European outings.
