Despite claims that a deal to take him to Old Trafford has been completed, Benfica’s Nicolas Gaitan is none the wise and claims that despite the persistent rumours he plans to stay at the Portuguese club.
A number of sources have been reporting that United have wrapped up a deal to sign the 27 year old, with Portuguese journo Goncalo Lopes claiming an announcement would be made next week.
But the deal, which is thought to be worth £21m, is fallacy according to the player.
Speaking after Benfica beat Maritimo to win the league cup, Gaitan is reported to have said:
“I’m used to talks of Man United, I’ve heard about for the last 5 years. No one has talked to me. I’ve a contract here.
“If it was my last game in a Benfica shirt? Yes, for this season. I haven’t received any offers, neither yesterday or today.”
Jan Hagen, who runs Portuguese football twitter account @PortuBall isn’t convinced though and tweeted:
These quotes are quite ordinary and doesn’t change anything. Nico Gaitán has probably played his last match as a Benfica player.

We’ll have to wait until next week to see if reports of the transfer have proved true.
