In the winter transfer window, Manchester United lured a world class star in the form of Bruno Fernandes, who has proved to be an instant hit at Old Trafford.
Now, reports suggest that the Red Devils are considering making a move to sign another Sporting CP player in the form of Nuno Mendes.
As per a story covered by O JOGO today, Solskjaer is not satisfied with Brandon Williams and seriously wants to sign the 18-year-old Portuguese left back , who would compete with Luke Shaw for the starting position.
The renowned source have claimed that the teenager’s current contract with the Primeira Liga side will expire in 2025 and it has a clause of £40.5million. In order to let their prized asset leave, Sporting would demand the release clause to be met.
It must be noted that in January, while negotiating for Bruno Fernandes, United even discussed Nuno Mendes. O JOGO claim that the two players have the same agent and the Red Devils have good relations with the Lions, therefore, a deal could be facilitated.
As far as the competition is concerned, the Portuguese outlet have mentioned that the likes of Liverpool and Juventus are interested in luring the youngster.
Mendes has so far featured in 7 senior games for Sporting CP and has mostly played on the left side of the midfield in a 3-4-3 setup. He is yet to score/create a goal for his team.
In all fairness, Brandon Williams has done well for us to cover for Shaw and the 19-year-old deserves time to cement his place.
So, there is no real need for Solskjaer to splash a decent amount of cash to lure a second choice left back when there are other key areas that need strengthening. What do you think?
